Bio

I think that most people don't realize how truly amazing the undersea world is, so I take pictures to show them what it's all about.

I'm an SSI Master Diver with 600+ dives to my credit.

Shortly after I earned my AOW certification, I purchased a small Reefmaster camera and my passion for underwater photography took off. Next, I upgraded to a Sea & Sea MX-10, and I captured some truly eye-pleasing shots. Presently, I have a Nikonos system, and I've crossed over into the professional realm of U/W photography.

I’m proud of the fact that my images have received awards and national recognition. I’ve won several major photo contests, and my work has been published in magazines such as Alert Diver, Florida Scuba News, and Advanced Diver Magazine. In June 2004, my winning image of a Green Turtle was exhibited at Kodak’s Times Square Gallery in NYC. I’ve also exhibited a collection of my best images at several museums and galleries throughout Florida, with plans for additional exhibits in the future.

I invite you to take a ‘dry dive’ as you view my gallery, and see if you don’t agree that our ocean is truly a spellbinding place.

  Richard Harris

Bio

Richard "Harry" Harris is an Australian Anaesthetist and Physician in Diving Medicine currently living in Vanuatu. He started diving in 1979 and took up underwater photography soon after with a Nikonos III, developing his black and white images in a home darkroom. Very much still an amateur photographer, his day job is just an excuse to pay for his diving addiction which seems to be getting worse with time not better. Now a keen tech diver, he is taking his camera further into caves and deeper to wrecks on CCR, still searching for the perfect shot! In 2006 Harry and his long suffering family will return to Australia where his focus will be on diving the remote and beautiful caves of Oz. More of his work can be seen at

  John  Rawlings

Bio

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, John Rawlings spent much of his childhood alongside his avid fisherman father gazing down into the emerald green waters of Puget Sound and wondering what really lay beneath the surface. Finally learning to dive in the mid-1970s, it wasn't long before he developed a burning desire to photograph the many colorful animals and scenes he regularly saw while diving so that he could share his wonder with "topside friends".

Starting with a used Nikonos II and a dented flash-bulb system, John became a self-taught photographer as he struggled to find the best methods to photograph the underwater creatures and sights of Puget Sound, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and British Columbia. Often having to deal with typically Northwest low light and poor visibility, these conditions contributed much to the manner in which John views both his subjects and the methods that he uses to capture his images. In the early days he would emerge from each dive with an old breadbag full of used bulbs lashed to his weight belt and a "wee bit" more knowledge about Pacific Northwest underwater photography bouncing around in his head. While his equipment has become more modern, John's quest for increased knowledge and skill remains never-ending.

Now well into his third decade of Puget Sound diving, John is the Pacific Northwest Staff Writer and Photographer for Advanced Diver Magazine, in which for the past two years his work has regularly appeared. His photographs and writings have also appeared in other publications dealing with the Pacific Northwest, in both the print medium and on the web.

Having traveled to a variety of locations throughout the world, John still treasures the underwater world of his home waters above all others. Year-round.....sun, snow, wind or rain..... he can be found striding out of the surf on a desolate beach or climbing back into a dive boat, his camera again containing new images from the cold, green waters of the Pacific Northwest.

John Rawlings has a large portfolio of images from the Pacific Northwest as well as other photographs from "warmer locations".
