TOM ISGAR

ADM Writer / Photographer

Hi, I’m a full time nature and wildlife photographer and writer. Half of my subjects live underwater. My first camera was a Kodak Brownie forty some years ago. I have carried a camera since then. I have been attempting to make a living with it for the past few years. My wildlife articles have been published in Nature Photographer as well as several local and private publications. My images have appeared in DAN's Alert Diver and in National Wildlife Refuge brochures. Hundreds of my photos are in private collections. Please visit the ADM Gallery to view some of my underwater images.

Underwater photography began with a soon flooded Nikonos V, followed by a week at Cathy Church’s famous underwater photography school. I am now using my third housing, an Ikelite along with two Ikelite strobes. Ikelite was the housing of choice because of its ability to use the TTL features of my Digital Nikon and the Ikelite strobes. My land gear is all Cannon.

My goal, as a staff writer and photographer for Advance Diver Magazine, is to bring articles and images to ADM's readers from places where few divers have been. I have been to several locations in Indonesia, including the recently independent Timor Leste. I have also written about Grenada, Utila and Venezuela. Many of my live aboard trips are to explore new itineraries – the most recent was the new Aggressor boat in Sulawesi.

I have been diving for 20 plus years and in more than 30 countries. I am on the Advisory Board for REEF (Reef Environmental Education Foundation) and am a regular participant on REEF's Advanced Assessment team.

I have a Ph.D. in management from Purdue and ran a highly successful organization consulting practice in another life.
